William Wallace
Awaits…
Artist’s Illustration Of The Siege Of Stirling Castle
Welcome to the
William Wallace Illustrated
accompanying website
This book is about William Wallace (c1272-1305), the most famous hero of the Scots and the period he lived in, from Alexander III to King Robert I (the Bruce).
He was true to his cause and never a turncoat like so many of the earls and bishops. It is not only a history of those times and his endeavours to strive for independence from the English, but also an architectural journey, following in his footsteps to those places where he travelled and that still exist today – all of considerable interest.
The author presents a lot of new information that wasn’t known before, or was wrong! It will surprise you who actually sought King Edward 1’s interference in who governed Scotland; where the true location of Dundee Castle was and more. The major battles are recorded with the Knights and Lords who fought; their crests, their men, and the author has found eyewitness accounts describing the battles in gory details. He has dredged the museums and records from so many places, travelled all the sites and locations, pictures of which are illustrated in the book so well.
This must be the definitive Book of Wallace and of King Edward I’s relationship with Scotland.
The book is a truly impressive bound hard copy – everything about it is so good – the research, the content, the illustrations, the layout, the choice of font, colour and overall presentation is a ‘work of art’ in itself. As well as being so informative as a scholarly and academic work it is a ‘prize’ on the bookshelf to use, look at handle and enjoy. That said it must not be underestimated as an important and significant publication.
It makes for a highly enjoyable and satisfying read both for serious academics, the lay historian or anyone wishing to learn more about the desire and fight for Scotland’s independence from the English – still a ‘hot’ topic today.

About Barry Moss
Barry Moss Author Of William Wallace Illustrated & Other Books
Barry Moss, Northumbrian born which at one time extended south of Durham to Dundee along the east coast of the United Kingdom. For most of his childhood he was cared for by his Aunt Hannah (nee) Steele from Lennoxtown, Kirkintilloch and Uncle George who was a member of the Highland Light Infantry.
Barry became a surveyor and engineer and at twenty four years of age, achieving the titles of Corporate Surveyor and Member of the Incorporated Association of Architects and Surveyors. He later became a Fellow of the Association (now Chartered Association) of Building Engineers. He was also a member of the Guild of Municipal Building inspectors, Institute of Building Control Officers (IBCO), which amalgamated with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

His passion for history and medieval architecture led him to committing to the restoration of a listed C14th Medieval Hall in Yorkshire, a C17th Georgian Hall in Durham, and other similar projects. In order to ensure he had the knowledge to be true to the period of these historic properties he studied Medieval Architecture at Nottingham University.
This combination of study and hands on restoration of historical buildings created the desire to learn more about the history of the families, their architects and builders. The influence of the ruling Kings and Queens, and those opposed to these ruling powers also needed to be explored, understood and recorded to create his books; books holding a wealth of new and undiscovered information to be shared with all those with a passion for history, and/or architecture.
